Been running an Atego since 2016, mostly city hauls with the 4-cylinder diesel. First thing, it sips less fuel than older trucks, so that’s easy on the wallet over time. I do wish I didn’t have to watch the CAN wires so much though, mine started acting up around 600k kilometers: sometimes the dash lights up like a disco for no reason. It’s not too hard to fix at the right shop, but still an extra headache every few years. Cab is alright, feels tough, but I had a tiny rust spot under the windshield after a few winters. Suspension’s never been great for huge potholes, so you gotta take city craters slow or risk breaking bits. Overall, keeps moving and does what I need.

So, I drove the new-gen Sprinter a few times for work deliveries. It's got solid handling, and the fuel efficiency is a bonus with the FWD model. The cabin is designed thoughtfully, but some tech options feel like a luxury rather than necessity-for instance, the advanced infotainment system. Nonetheless, it does what it’s meant to, though could be costly fully loaded.

The diverse engine options in the Arocs range are truly versatile, especially the new OM470 series engines. I utilized the high-performance engine brake extensively, which performed admirably in uneven terrains. However, the instrumentation panel design could be more intuitive for quicker adaptability.

Been using different Sprinter variants for courier work, clocking long days in all kinds of conditions. The thing with the newer Sprinter is the payload is huge and there’s ton of configurations, but most of the nice features like adaptive cruise cost extra and it’s not cheap upfront. Drives super easy, feels almost like a car and you’ve got decent visibility with those massive mirrors. The 2.1 diesel isn’t quick but it pulls steady and gets good fuel numbers, way better than some of the other big vans I’ve driven. Love the Bluetooth and air con, but those dashboard storage lids annoy me. They pop open on their own unless you slam them shut just right. Apps to unlock loadspace is a cool gimmick if your mates forget the key. Maintenance through Merc isn’t cheap though. Overall, solid workhorse, just not perfect if you’re pinching pennies.

Using the Mercedes Arocs, especially with that powerful engine, pulling heavy loads feels effortless. The suspension ensures stability even when fully loaded. Yet, navigation in tight spaces could be challenging due to its size. Interior space is a big plus; having extra cabin room makes long trips manageable.

I've been running routes with the hybrid and the fully electric Citaro. Quiet, barely any engine noise, passengers don't even notice when we pull up-some like it, some aren't sure. Charging on the electric takes getting used to, had to change my habits a bit, but once you adjust, it's all right. Range is honestly enough for most of my shifts, but if we double up, I worry about making it through the whole day. Accessibility for folks with mobility aids is honestly way better than our old buses, ramps are easy, seating layout's open. Interior lighting's good too, feels safer at night. Never loved the price tag but that's not my call. Maintenance people seem happy since we barely have downtime.

Short take from the cab: mixed. The ClassicSpace climb is fine but you notice the engine tunnel - looks bigger than the spec says (320mm) and it gets in the way a bit. Seat is good though, so long shifts aren’t brutal. Gearbox is smooth, you barely feel the shifts. On the other hand the speedo layout is annoying - kph big and white, mph tiny in red inside, took me a few runs to stop glancing down. Engine brake (high performance) works really well on long hills, saves the service brakes. I used the offroad/power modes a bit and they do what they say. Dashboard and screens are a bit small for my taste. Not flawless, but does the job.

Recently, I've tried out the Mercedes-Benz Intouro. The unique adaptive systems like Sideguard Assist are helpful during crowded street turns. Although, I noticed that the driver's seat adjustments could be made more extensive to suit various preferences.

Operating a 2001 Atego during long routes gave insight into its fuel-efficient engine, a real advantage for extended usage. However, maintaining the electronic systems requires attention, especially in regions of high humidity.

I've had the chance to drive an Atego (2003 version) for a few months now. It’s robust in urban settings, like maneuvering in tight spaces, but the suspension feels stiff on uneven roads. The cab interior is straightforward and functional, though it could be more refined.
